Año 1979, una mujer, Charo, da a luz a gemelos en un parto con demasiada anestesia. Al despertar el prestigioso ginecólogo que la atiende le comunica que uno de los niños ha muerto, ella no le cree, pero no mira en el interior del ataúd, algo de lo que se arrepentirá siempre. En el año 2011 Charo cae muy enferma y no para de repetir a su hijo que su hermano no ha muerto, ante su insistencia, Juan decide investigar y lo primero que hace es abrir la tumba de su gemelo y descubre que allí no hay ningún cuerpo. Encontrar a su hermano y averiguar que ocurrió se convierte en su máxima obsesión.
